Typepad’s reps have explained what, why, and so on, so I’m holding off on bailing for now – what’ll happen for the time being is that content will just be cross-posted between here and the Typepad site.
Assuming they can maintain a stable environment from here out, I’m inclined to stay with the tools I’m used to (their $ credit doesn’t hurt, either). Their explanations follow:
Thank you for following up. We understand your concerns about prolonged downtime. Please know that we’re putting a lot of people and a lot of money into fighting back against the attacks we’ve been seeing. Denial of service attacks like this are more sophisticated than what we’ve seen previously and the person behind it is trying to extort us, and other services like ours, for money. That’s all being handled by the FBI but this isn’t the type of attack we’d normally be able to absorb – it’s a much larger scale than that.
That was all to clarify what’s happening – we’re not happy about the downtime, either and we’re working across multiple teams to do what we can to prevent that. There’s more from our GM here:
I’ve applied a $27 credit to your account for the downtime. If you’d like to discuss other compensation, please let us know. Thank you again for your patience.
